Cashew nuts are incredibly popular these days, being one of the most consumed nuts in the world and the third most commonly produced tree nut. Do you know where cashew nuts come from?

They’re not only super nutritious but also incredibly versatile as an ingredient and a fantastic snack that can help support weight loss and are also able to improve other aspects of your general health.

Do You Know Where Cashew Nuts Come From?

The cashew was first discovered in Brazil around 1558. Later, the Portuguese missionaries took it to East Africa and India, where it became abundant.

Finally, around 1905, the nuts would reach the United States. Presently, the country is the leading importer of cashews, and its second-largest consumer in terms of volume.

How do cashews grow?

The beloved nut is best known after it’s been roasted and salted,

blended into a spread or made into a dairy-free milk… The fact is, a lot of people have absolutely no idea how cashews grow.

The most surprising fact is learning that the coveted ingredient isn’t exactly a nut, but a seed from a fruit: The tree produces rose-colored fragrant l flowers in panicles, which later develop into edible red fruits, called “cajus”. The cashew nuts grow outside the fruit instead of inside, within a kidney-shaped drupe that hangs at the end of its base.

Different types of cashews

If you are a fan of cashew nuts, you may have noticed they don’t always look the same. What Many don’t realize is that there are quite a few different types of cashew nuts.

Cashew kernels varieties are graded into white/scorched wholes, pieces, splits, or butts depending on the shape, size and color of the kernel.

We exclusively offer premium cashews: W180, considered the “King of Cashews”, are the largest in size and extremely flavorful. W240 is an attractive great grade.

In contrast, cashew butts are kernels broken in crosswise, which is why they are placed at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of quality – even though a lot of vendors still insist in selling them in their nut mixes to lower their cost. (we absolutely do not use cashew butts)

powerhouses. They are also rich in a range of nutrients, including magnesium and manganese, nutrients important for bone health.

Cashews are especially rich in unsaturated fats, a category of fats linked to a lower risk of premature death and heart disease.

Low in sugar, cashews are also a source of fiber and contain almost the same amount of protein as an equivalent quantity of cooked meat!

Furthermore, cashews contain a significant amount of copper, a mineral essential for energy production, healthy brain development, and a strong immune system. In addition, they are a great source of magnesium and manganese, nutrients important for bone health; and also contain a healthy dosage of zinc, an immune-boosting compound that is vital for basic cell processes.

Lose weight, the healthy way

While cashews are high in calories, when consumed in moderation, they can actually help support weight loss. This is because of their fat, protein, and fiber content, nuts can make you feel fuller for longer.

Another factor, the magnesium present in cashew nuts is essential for regulating the metabolism of fat and carbohydrates. This may further help you lose weight.

Cashews may also feature as part of a low-carb and ketogenic diet. Due to them being high in fat and relatively low in carbohydrates compared to other common snack foods.
