Spring is a season to clean our homes, declutter, and make room for new experiences. It’s also the perfect time to clean our diets! Healthy eating does not mean you can’t snack anymore. It is more about finding the proper way to snack. Here’s an article we wrote to help you enjoy healthy snacking this spring.
What are the benefits of spring?
Firstly, there is more daylight and that is a huge advantage to our routines. We tend to feel more tired and sad when the sky is dark when we wake up and when we go to bed. Longer daylight hours give us the feeling that we have more time to be active and awake.
This brings us to the second-best benefit of spring: we get to spend more time outside. A walk in the morning can be more enjoyable, than biking in the neighborhood after school or taking a long hike during the weekend. It is time to put the garden furniture out and enjoy it with family and friends.
In addition to being more active with the daylight and higher temperature, we feel more energized and happier. The more Vitamin D we receive, the better our mental health is. If you eat well, sleep well, and exercise more, you will feel the boost of endorphins (happiness hormones).
How can I improve my diet during the spring?
You should start by checking out the seasonal fruits and vegetables. Depending on the season we are in, our consumption should change. The modern food chain has led to the loss of this habit, but it is never too late to check your local gardens and farmers for organic and fresh ingredients.
Cook some of your weekly meals at home if you can. By doing so, you can eat more nutrient-dense foods and save money!
It is also a good time to examine how you eat every day and what changes you can make. Choosing the right snacks is important to staying healthy and feeling good. Here are some of our favorites:
- Roasted and salted almonds are the best healthy snack to curb sugar cravings.
We roast almonds and sprinkle them with salt to ensure the best taste and texture. Almonds are naturally packed with nutrients, proteins, vitamins, and antioxidants linked to a number of health benefits, including controlling blood sugar levels and blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and curbing hunger.

- One of the ingredients you should always keep in your kitchen is a box of different dried fruits. They contain many nutrients, are easy to add to your diet, and can be stored for months. Each member of the family will find enough products to satisfy their sweet tooth. Goji berries are one of the best-dried fruits to add to recipes since they are both delicious and healthy. Natural dried, they are beneficial for your immune system, your skin, and your eyes! Whenever you feel a craving, you can simply snack on them as is, or add a handful to your greek yogurt, your bowl of cereal, or your homemade granola.
- You can also incorporate salty snacks into many of yourdishes. The roasted pumpkin seeds and pepitas are packed with antioxidants, carotenoids, magnesium, copper, zinc, selenium, and Vitamin E. It is the perfect snack for your brain and immune system. Snack on them as is or add them to a green salad or muffin! It does not contain any preservatives, soy, dairy, wheat, gluten, peanut, or corn syrup.
An active lifestyle complements a healthy diet. You don’t need to exercise every day like an athlete but you should walk every day. Make sure you stretch and drink plenty of water.
How to store my spring healthy snacks?
Keep your fruits and nuts in a cool, dry place away from the sun, inside a tightly sealed container. Refrigerating them will prolong their texture and flavor. Know that you can store them in the main compartment of your refrigerator for up to six months.
However, do not refrigerate any product with chocolate inside since chocolate absorbs other odors and can taste unpleasant.
