Ingredients Green Beans Casserole

  • Green beans, 2 pounds
  • 1 cup of honey toasted pecans
  • 1 pound of sliced cremini mushrooms,
  •  2 teaspoons of minced fresh thyme,
  • ½ cup of minced red onions, and 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons of regular flour
  • 3 glasses of fat-free milk
  • A topping,  ½ cup of fried onions
  • To taste, add fresh cracked pepper and kosher salt.
  • ¼  cup of unsalted butter

Preparations Green Beans Casserole

Step 1:

  • Set the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a sizable nonstick pan over medium-high heat.
  • When the liquid has disappeared, add the mushrooms and simmer for another 7 minutes until they turn light gold.
  • With the heat at medium-low, add the onions, thyme, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a few grinds of pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes. Then place it aside.
  • Drain and transfer to an ice water bath after you cook the green beans  for 3 minutes in a big saucepan of salted boiling water. Set aside also

Step 2:

  • In the meantime, prepare the cream sauce by combining the flour with 3 tablespoons of melted butter in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. (The flour should be medium-bright blonde after 3 to 5 minutes of stirring).
  • Add the milk while whisking, then heat for 7 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly thickened and is saucy.

Step 3:

  • In a big bowl, add the green beans, then top with the mushroom mixture and all of the cream sauce.
  • Mix together, then spoon into a 9 x 13 baking dish in a uniform layer, and then tightly wrap with tin foil.
  • Remove the foil after 25 minutes of baking and bake for a further 15 minutes.
  • Pecans and fried onions should be roughly chopped and placed on top of the casserole.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges of the casserole are bubbling and the pecans are toasted.
  • Serve right away or save for later in the oven for a quick reheat in the oven, then relish!
