What is gluten? 

Gluten is a protein found in wheat and several other grains. It is naturally occurring in certain foods, but it can also be manually added during processing for texture, for example. 

Often, it is also used as a binding agent and flavoring, so it’s always good to check the package to make sure it’s really gluten-free, as you might find it in foods you wouldn’t expect.

necessarily healthier for everyone, it’s still a good option for many. Some people simply prefer to avoid gluten because they feel better without it. 

The benefits of going “GF” include a boost in your bone health and elevated energy levels. It also lowers the risk of autoimmune diseases, since gluten can cause a lot of inflammation within the body, often resulting in conditions like Hashimoto’s Syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis. 

Another common complaint of anyone with a gluten problem is the digestive stress. Symptoms like extreme bloating, acid reflux, constipation, and terrible stomach pain are not easy to handle. However, avoiding gluten can help you reduce these symptoms. 

All in all, a gluten-free diet is generally more whole foods-oriented, which may help in making you naturally gravitate towards more nutritious foods and improve your overall health. 

Tips for going gluten-free the healthy way 

* Always check packages for warnings! Many products that wouldn’t normally contain gluten may have been processed in a factory where there are gluten products.

* Read ingredient labels to check for traces of wheat. Some artificial colors and seasonings also contain gluten.

* Wheat flour is not your only option! You can use oat, quinoa, buckwheat, or many other alternative grain flours instead.
