In a nutshell: L’Orenta Nuts is a San Antonio–based SQF, HACCP, GMP, and FDA-certified snack manufacturer specializing in private label and branded candies, chocolates, nuts, dried fruits, and snack mixes. We operate fully automated production lines with robots, pick-and-pack machines, checkweighers, metal detectors, and automated filling machines to ensure precision and safety. From 2-oz retail bags to full-truckload shipments, we deliver premium snacks with speed, quality, and reliability.

To help you understand how the L’Orenta Nuts you know (and L’Ove!) came to be, it’s important for us to take you back to the beginning.

It all started back in 1934, when our great-great-grandfather founded a nut company, De Schaap B.V., by purchasing a small store in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Noticing the lack of quality across the marketplace, he dreamed of creating a new standard for gourmet treats.

Visiting his nut store was never a simple trip to the market; it was an experience where you would find yourself surrounded by kind people and the alluring sights and pleasant smells from in-store roasted nuts.

After bringing joy to so many people, he had every intention to share this experience with all of Europe. In 1941, his business had grown large enough to purchase a small warehouse. Sadly, neither the factory nor our great-grandfather survived the war.

Out of the rubble of World War 2, our grandfather (never one to accept defeat) rebuilt the entire company. He took hold of our great-grandfather’s dream and set forth on the path to fulfill the De Schaap vision. With his perseverance, the company grew exponentially and had thousands of stores across Europe. De Schaap’s distinct approach to quality and service had laid the groundwork for its prosperity, and the company would continue to develop throughout the years.

During the 1970s, the company expanded further to include a larger production facility, salmon smokery, honey farms, an in-house laboratory for quality control, warehouses, and more office spaces. No matter how much it grew, our family values were never shaken. The company was vertically integrated, and the business remained under complete control by the Henselijn family.

During the 1980s, De Schaap augmented its reach by forming Hocorn B.V., a company focused on the import and export of an even wider range of food products. The new company shared the same ethos as De Schaap, to spread gratification with remarkable products and cordial service. In 1995, the family made the decision to sell De Schaap.

Although De Schaap was a piece of our family’s history, letting it go allowed us to focus all our efforts on Hocorn. To this day, Hocorn B.V. is an industry leader in its segment in Europe.

The soul of that little nut shop in Amsterdam lives on. Started in the United States, Sam Henselijn is continuing his family’s tradition of selling fine products while providing superior products, service, and quality to his customers.

Founded in 2016 in a small apartment in San Antonio, Texas, L’Orenta Nuts has grown into a fully certified, state-of-the-art snack manufacturing facility. What began as a family passion for premium confections has evolved into one of the most trusted names in the snack and confectionery industry, serving customers across the U.S. with quality, consistency, and innovation.

Today, L’Orenta operates an SQF-certified, HACCP-verified, GMP-compliant, and FDA-approved facility equipped with automated assembly lines, robotic pick-pack systems, checkweighers, metal detectors, and high-speed Doypack machines. Our automation and food-safety standards ensure every product meets the highest quality benchmarks — from raw material to finished retail bag.
