Gummy Bear Flavors. Gummy bears are an iconic confection. From the joy of all the different flavors and colors, the chewy texture, the stick-in-your-teeth-ivity, to the fruity sweetness, there’s just no denying that the gelatinous, rainbow treats are one of the world’s most popular candies.

Gummy Bear History

It all started around 1920 with a poor German factory worker who had little more besides a dream – and a few bags of sugar.

Hans Riegel, the founder of Haribo, created the original gummy bear. The shape and colors were so unusual for the time, that they immediately made an impact. By the 1940s they were producing 10 tons of gummy bears per day.

Fun facts

There’s a lot of history and fun facts behind gummy bears! For instance, they don’t always follow the color-to-flavor combinations we are familiar with. Take the green bear for example: most people would probably connect this flavor to the colors pink or red, right? Well, they’d be wrong. The green bear is actually strawberry!

No color doesn’t mean no flavor…

There is nothing more multisensory than flavor perception: in fact, it’s scientifically proven that color impacts our perception of flavor.

From this perspective, clear gummy bears could be considered the least exciting of the bunch – when they are, unquestionably, a crowd favorite.

Chewy but soft, they boast a delicious tropical flavor, the perfect balance of sweet and sour. Would you be able to guess… pineapple? That’s right! Clear gummy bears are PINEAPPLE flavored!

Gummy Bear Candy shaped like animals

It might sound unlikely, but bears have owned the gummy candy market for

quite a while. The next popular gummy shape, the gummy worm, didn’t make an appearance until 1981, 6 decades after the debut of gummy bears.

Luckily for us, since then, many other animals have become popular in the candy world – for all the flavor, and double the fun! Because, contrary to what we’ve all been taught as kids, sometimes it is ok to play with your food…

Browse our selection of yummy and colorful treats and experience the joy of animal-shaped candy: from gummy turtles, unicorns, frogs, and even whales. These will make any occasion more fun!

What can you do with gummy bears?

While simply eating them by the handful has got to be the best way to enjoy gummy bears, there is plenty more you can do with them to make things more interesting…

Have you ever tried gummy bear popsicles? All you need are some popsicle molds, popsicle sticks, gummy bears, and some clear liquid, like coconut water or lemonade. Such a treat in the Summer months, plus it looks really cute!

Another idea that requires virtually no cooking skills: make gummy bear bark! Simply melt some white chocolate and pour it over a greased sheet of parchment paper. While still melty, throw some colorful sprinkles and bears atop your creation and leave it to set.

Adults deserve their fun too: Get your gummies a little drunk by emptying the bag into a container, then cover them in your preferred booze (rum, vodka, and tequila all work), and let them infuse for 2 or 3 days. The bears will soak up all of the liquid. Be warned though, for these buzzed bears are strong!
