Pumpkin seeds are a quick snack that can be enjoyed all year long, and is easy to find no matter where you are shopping. They often come in trail mix, or just plainly roasted with salt. However, with a snack that is so tasty and common, why not spice them up with different seasonings? They can go from a basic treat to something new and unique, with a burst of flavor in every bite. Enjoy something both nutritious and delicious! Here are 5 ways to season pumpkin seeds!

How do you season pumpkin seeds?

Seasoning them is rather simple! You start with either freshly roasted, or pre roasted, seeds and add an oil to help the seasoning stick. The most common oils to use would be:

  • Olive oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Coconut oil

Alternatively, if you are deciding to do a sweet seasoning, you can use something like maple syrup or butter to help the seasoning stick.

From there you mix in the spices you are choosing to use, and roast the seeds for a few more minutes to help everything stick well. Once they are done roasting they are ready to eat, or be added into recipes!

What can you season pumpkin seeds with?

The simple answer to this question is nearly anything! However, we

are going to go over 5 different seasoning blends you can use if you don’t want to come up with your own. As mentioned before, you can make pumpkin seeds both sweet and savory, so we are going to have both kinds of recipes listed so you can give them all a try and decide which is your favorite.

Cinnamon Sugar

This recipe is one of the best sweet combinations to be discovered. After making these pumpkin seeds, eat them by the handful, or add them to cereal or oatmeal for breakfast! These would also be great in any baked good.

Start by coating your pumpkin seeds in melted butter. Then give

them a generous sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar (more sugar than cinnamon) and mix them to coat them evenly. After that, pop them in the oven for a few minutes to ensure the mixture sticks. Once they look golden brown they are ready to enjoy!

Honey and Brown Sugar

This is another sweet recipe, but another golden one. Just like the cinnamon sugar pumpkin seeds, these are a perfectly sweet treat that can be added to anything from salads, to banana bread, to ice cream.

Once again you will start with melted butter, coating your pumpkin seeds entirely. From there you are going to drizzle on some honey and a good sprinkle of brown sugar. Mix the seeds up well and put them back in the oven until they are golden brown. Once you remove them, add another light drizzle of honey and they are perfect.

Buffalo Ranch

If you are a fan of spice, this recipe is definitely for you. Once you make these, add them to nearly any recipe for an added kick. Beware, though, for once everyone gets a taste of these you might be stuck making them for every future get-together.

For the wet mixture in this recipe we will actually just use your favorite buffalo sauce. Once they are all coated evenly add some dry ranch seasoning and a little bit of lemon pepper. Mix it all up well, and throw the tray back into the oven until the mixture is dry. It will be hard, but let them cool down before everyone dives in.

Dill Pickle

These are definitely addicting for anyone who loves pickles! They are also incredibly easy to make, so don’t blame us if you have to make a batch every week.

Start with using a small amount of actual pickle juice, making sure all of the seeds are wet. From there add some fresh or dried dill, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Roast them in the oven until they are golden, and enjoy! I suggest adding these to salads, wraps, or anything with ranch.

Taco Seasoning

The best part about these is the fact you can use whatever your favorite taco seasoning is! If you don’t have a favorite, however, try using ours.

These seeds start with any oil of your choice. Coat the seeds good, and add your taco seasoning and bake until dry. Here is our taco seasoning if you want to make some at home (this will make a bulk jar):

  • ¼ cup paprika
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp oregano powder
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

Above are just 5 out of the limitless ways you can season pumpkin seeds. Start here, then branch off and come up with your own flavor combinations. Either way you will be enjoying a healthy and delicious treat all year long. We hope you enjoyed the above 5 ways to season pumpkin seeds.
