Gourmet nuts, dried fruits, nut mixes, chocolates, yogurt covered items and Dutch stroopwafels, all with a touch of European elegance.
Every Adventure Starts with the First Step
In 1934, our great grandfather formed a nut company called De Schaap B.V. by purchasing a small store in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Noticing the lack of quality throughout the marketplace, he dreamed of breaking free from the status quo. By importing only the finest nuts and dried fruits, he took great care to select a range of products that would delight every one of his client’s senses. Visiting his nut store was never a simple trip to the market. It was an experience where you would find yourself surrounded by alluring sights, pleasant smells from in-store roasted nuts and kind people.
After bringing joy to so many people, he had every intention to share this experience with all of Europe. Shortly before the Second World War, his business had grown large enough to purchase a small warehouse. Sadly, both the factory and our great grandfather didn’t survive the war. Although he lost his chance to fulfill his dreams, we have never lost touch of our great grandfathers’ legacy.
And So the Story Continues
Never one to accept defeat, out of the rubble of World War 2 our grandfather rebuilt the entire company. He took hold of our great grandfathers’ dream and set forth on the path to fulfill the De Schaap vision. With his perseverance, the company had grown exponentially and had thousands of stores across Europe. De Schaap’s distinct approach to quality and service had laid the groundwork for its prosperity, and the company would continue to develop throughout the years. In the 1970’s the company expanded further to include a larger production facility, salmon smokery, honey farms, in-house laboratory for quality control, warehouses and more office space. Despite such growth, the values of the family had never been shaken. The company was vertically integrated, and the business remained under full control by the Henselijn family.
During the 1980’s De Schaap augmented its reach by forming Hocorn B.V., a company focused on the import and export of an even wider range of food products. The new company shared the same ethos as De Schaap, to spread gratification with remarkable products and cordial service. In 1995, the family made the decision to sell De Schaap. Although De Schaap was a piece of our families history, letting it go allowed us to focus all our efforts on Hocorn. To this day, Hocorn B.V. remains owned by the Henselijn family. Hocorn is focussed on general foods and wholesales to supermarkets many highly recognizable brands.
An Old Love Never Dies
Although our grandfather sold the company, the passion never faded. The soul of that little nut shop in Amsterdam lives on. Today, his grandson Sam Henselijn would like to introduce you to L’Orenta Nuts. Starting in the United States, he is continuing his families’ tradition of selling fine products while providing an authentic European experience to his customers. L'Orenta Nuts sells nuts, dried fruits, chocolates, nut mixes, yogurt-covered items, gift sets, corporate gifts and more. We created the "Indulgence Club", a monthly surprise box with delicious nuts and treats.
For over 80 years, our belief has always been that the customer defines our success. Since 1934, our family has placed significant value on quality. L’Orenta is no exception; we have sought out local farms that provide us with only the freshest ingredients to work with. From there, we infuse them with unique European flavors that will arouse and excite your senses. When you visit L’Orenta, you will be enveloped in warm aromas and exquisite tastes. Like our great grandfather so many years ago, we invite you into our home.
That is the L’Orenta experience.
